Give-Get is a financial literacy game designed to educate students on budgeting, saving, and borrowing. It offers an engaging and interactive learning experience outside of the traditional classroom setting. The objective of the game is for students to navigate the board by making decisions to Give money, which potentially allows them to Get money.

In order to progress successfully through the game, students must develop an understanding of their essential expenses and learn to plan for unexpected costs by establishing an emergency fund. Once these fundamental aspects are covered, any additional funds can be allocated towards discretionary spending, saving, or investing. When it comes to using discretionary dollars, students have two choices: they can choose to do nothing and keep their money idle (akin to keeping it under a mattress), or they can actively Give money at specific locations on the board in order to potentially Get money.

The Four Corners spaces on the board are crucial as they represent Budgeting. Creating a budget, whether weekly, monthly, or annual, is the initial step towards gaining control over personal finances. It involves assessing incoming and outgoing funds to determine what remains available for saving and investing.

The Piggy space on the board symbolizes a guaranteed savings account, which is essential for a comprehensive retirement plan. Examples of guaranteed savings vehicles that also provide guaranteed income include pensions and annuities. Additionally, checking accounts, savings accounts, certificate of deposits, and money market funds are relatively safe investment options that offer varying degrees of interest earnings, making them equivalent to a Piggy.

The Chart space represents a non-guaranteed investment account. For individuals saving towards long-term goals (10+ years), investing in the stock market can be an effective means of wealth creation. Examples of stock market investments include individual stocks, passive index funds, and active mutual funds.

The Ticket space represents speculation or gambling activities. This encompasses activities such as playing the lottery, betting on sporting events, or engaging with slot machines. In gambling, the chance to win money ceases once the event concludes or the slot machine stops spinning. It is an all-or-nothing scenario, where one either wins or loses.

The House space represents asset ownership, illustrating how assets appreciate over time but may lose value if sold hastily. Owning an asset can be financially rewarding and beneficial. Examples of assets include primary residences, investment properties, business ventures, private investments, commercial real estate, and valuable items such as art or jewelry.

The Pillars on the board symbolize Borrowing. Borrowing can be a positive financial transaction if one has a repayment plan and a clear purpose for the loaned funds. Examples of borrowing include home loans, lines of credit, credit cards, and student loans.

A player wins the game if their opponent goes bankrupt or if they are the first to reach a net worth of at least $100.

Sponsors have the opportunity to utilize the game for a national competition with scholarship opportunities.
